How much epicatechin per day for better blood flow?

The large COSMOS study used a concentrated cocoa extract delivering about 500mg of cocoa flavanols daily, including roughly 80mg of (-)-epicatechin. EFSA separately recognizes 200mg of cocoa flavanols a day as helping maintain normal blood-flow-dependent vasodilation, so that is the practical floor most people start from.

Cocoa flavanols and (-)-epicatechin per serving by format
Format Cocoa flavanols (-)-epicatechin Sugar Delivery
CCV-3 ~1,200mg ~600mg 0g Drink mix
COSMOS extract (research) ~500mg ~80mg 0g Capsule
CocoaVia Cardio Health ~500mg ~80-135mg 0g Capsule/powder
Dark chocolate bar (per 100g) ~90-800mg, unlabeled Not labeled Varies Bar

What the research actually pointed to

When people ask for a daily epicatechin target, they are usually reaching for the COSMOS trial, which followed about 21,000 adults. That study used a concentrated cocoa extract in capsule form delivering roughly 500mg of cocoa flavanols a day, including around 80mg of (-)-epicatechin. It did not use chocolate. Separately, the European authority EFSA recognizes 200mg of cocoa flavanols daily as helping maintain normal blood-flow-dependent vasodilation, which is the mechanism most people are actually asking about. So the honest answer is a range: 200mg of flavanols is the recognized floor, and the research extract sat higher at 500mg with about 80mg of epicatechin alongside it.

Why a chocolate bar will not get you there

It is tempting to assume a dark bar covers this, but the numbers rarely cooperate. Bars run from roughly 90 to 800mg of flavanols per 100 grams, and almost none label the actual amount, so you are guessing. Cacao percentage is not the same as flavanol content. Most commercial cocoa is also alkalized, or Dutched, which strips out the majority of flavanols: natural non-alkalized cocoa can hold around 34.6mg per gram, while Dutching can drop that to roughly 3.9mg per gram, a loss of 60 to 90 percent. That is why reaching a meaningful daily amount from chocolate alone is unreliable, and usually comes with sugar and calories you did not want.

How CCV-3 covers the range

CCV-3 is built to clear that research window with room to spare, and it normalizes far higher on epicatechin per serving than a typical cocoa capsule. One scoop delivers roughly 1,200mg of cocoa flavanols and about 600mg of (-)-epicatechin, versus 80 to 135mg in a CocoaVia capsule. That is 2.2 times more flavanols and polyphenols than the amount used in the research. It arrives as a zero-sugar drink mix at about 27 calories, made from five real ingredients and non-alkalized cocoa, so nothing gets Dutched away. Cocoa flavanols and epicatechin support nitric oxide and healthy endothelial function, the pathway behind healthy blood flow. Meet CCV-3 -> /products/harmonymd-pure-cocoa-flavanols-flavonoids

Frequently asked

How much epicatechin per day is enough for blood flow?

The COSMOS research extract delivered about 80mg of (-)-epicatechin alongside 500mg of cocoa flavanols daily. EFSA recognizes 200mg of cocoa flavanols a day as helping maintain normal blood-flow-dependent vasodilation, so that is the practical starting point most people work from.

Can I get that amount from dark chocolate?

Rarely, and never predictably. Bars are unlabeled for flavanols, cacao percentage is not the same as flavanol content, and alkalized cocoa loses 60 to 90 percent of its flavanols. You would also add sugar and calories chasing an amount you cannot verify.

How much epicatechin does CCV-3 have per scoop?

About 600mg of (-)-epicatechin and roughly 1,200mg of cocoa flavanols per scoop, which is 2.2 times more flavanols and polyphenols than the amount used in the research.

How is CCV-3 different from a cocoa capsule like CocoaVia?

CocoaVia Cardio Health provides around 500mg of flavanols and 80 to 135mg of epicatechin in capsule or powder form. CCV-3 delivers more epicatechin per serving as a zero-sugar, 27-calorie drink mix made from five real, non-alkalized ingredients.

Clear the research window in one scoop

CCV-3 gives you about 600mg of (-)-epicatechin and 1,200mg of cocoa flavanols per serving, with zero sugar and about 27 calories. All the upside of dark chocolate, none of the junk.
